Last week I tried a new brand, I've been seeing it at Priceline for about a year and at a cost of $5.95 it seemed reasonable but I hadn't seen any reviews and was unsure if I should try it. Anyways I finally decided to bite the bullet and grabbed Model's Prefer in Meltdown. A brown taupe colour. And I don't know why I was so nervous, I ended up loving the colour, the brush and the application and result. I will be adding more to my collection soon.
Anyways onwards, I really wanted to do a brown and pastel green combination. First I tried stamping and neither OPI's Mermaid Tears nor Orly's Ancient Jade were up to the job, both too thin for the stamping to stand out. So then I tried using a dotting tool but while my left hand looks awesome, my right resembles something a 1 year old would produce with finger paints. So then I tried stamping the dots on with white Konad polish and the BM plate. This started out ok, but then it seemed like I developed a case of the twitches when using the dotting tool and nail polish over the pre-stamped dots.... again fail...
So then I gave up on dots and stamps and decided to try stripes with scotch tape. Well I definitely need a lot of practice, plus when I used the Orly Ancient Jade, I had to do thick coats to get the opacity so when I removed the tape I got some lovely not straight lines.
So after all this, I think I'll just need to practice, practice, practice and more practice. So on with the show..... Base coat SH Maximum Growth, 2 coats of Model's Prefer Meltdown and the stripes are Orly's Ancient Jade with a top coat of Poshe.
Meltdown dries darker than the bottle colour, but still a great colour. Before buying Meltdown I had envisaged OPI's Suzi Loves Cowboys as the base colour, then decided it was too dark for the pastel jade green. Anyways, first picture is of the brush, I didn't think I'd do well with this but like the few Rimmel's and Sally Hansen polishes I have that have a similar brush it applied easily and with less spilling over onto the skin. This polish also dries pretty fast.
I then taped off some different width stripes, applying Orly's Ancient Jade. Now here is where I should have been a little patient. Instead of worrying that it was going to dry fast and I'd be unable to get the tape removed successfully, I should have waited until the polish had dried enough to where it didn't run once the tape was removed.
